Department Profile

The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1964, the year when the college was founded as an affiliated college to the University of Kerala. In the beginning its functions were started with one faculty for the Pre-degree courses.

In 1980 it was approved as a UG Department, with 32 students. The Department has a major objective of becoming a centre of excellence in Mathematical Science and applications among the socially and economically backward peoples of Peringammala. It also helps to provide facilities in learning Mathematical skills and improve their talents and facilitates training to the students. The Department has now produced more than 1000 B.Sc. holders. Then it is straining hard to produce more talents and create innovations in the field of education. At the beginning the Department had a good library with more than 2000 books. But today, this is linked with the general library with sufficient number of books and a number of Mathematical journals. It is a regular activity of the Department to conduct seminars and conferences in participation with students association. Over the period of the last decades, the department was able to scale greater heights and rise to the present status as a multifaculty to impart Mathematical training to different Science subjects students. It has a record of keeping more than 95% results in BSc Mathematics except few years, since its establishment.

Today, department offers degree program with Mathematics as core subject, Statistics and Physics are complementary and also offers Operations Research as open course. The department supervises to organize seminars on mathematical subjects and many subjects, exhibitions and quiz programs etc. We wish to publish a mathematical journal of students in this academic year. Hopefully, this process will continue in the coming academic years with new students with bulk of inspirations.
