  • Department Profile

English has been taught in the college since its inception in 1964 but it was introduced as a special subject in 2002. The language course for all Degree Courses as well as the Degree Course in Communicative English have been developed to ensure the integration of language, literature and culture at all levels, as well as to achieve and maintain coherence from level to level, in terms of the development of students’ abilities in areas such as language proficiency, cultural literacy as well as critical and creative engagements.

The English department envisions championing the cause of higher education, catering to the scholastic needs of the individuals, expertise demands of the industry and developmental requirements of the community through the creation of a critical knowledge base, with well defined means for social dissemination and extension, for the society’s sustained and inclusive growth.

The Department has consistently aimed to provide quality teaching to students who are drawn to the college from all over the district. It has a highly qualified set of faculty members, all actively engaged in research and have research presentations and publications to the credit. Both the staff and the students of the department have been fairly active in the past and the present, leading the department and college to great heights.
